CNN recommends Galicia as a tourist destination

Galicia se abre paso como uno de los destinos turísticos recomendados por la CNN

Galicia has started the year off on the right foot. The autonomous community has been named as one of the 24 tourist destinations recommended by CNN for this 2024. The American media has highlighted landscapes such as Fisterra and monuments such as the Cathedral of Santiago or the Tower of Hercules, within a list in which only five European countries have been included.

The text, signed by journalist Francesca Street and accompanied by a photo of the Cathedral, begins with many compliments to the Galician coastal environment, specifically the coast of the Rias Baixas. “Empty beaches bordered by the wild Atlantic Ocean and framed by the rugged landscape of the Atlantic Islands National Park. Mouthwatering seafood. And a historic city forever linked to the famous Camino de Santiago”, so begins the writing.

Galicia, the only Spanish destination included in the list

CNN continues to recommend visiting Santiago de Compostela, a city well known internationally for the centuries-old Way of Saint James, which is traveled by thousands of pilgrims every year. But the media does not stop there and strongly advises its readers to visit the Galician capital, even if they do not plan to “put on their walking boots” and see the impressive Cathedral of Santiago, built during the 12th century.

Francesca Street also mentions one of the most attractive and outstanding natural landscapes of the autonomous community: Cape Fisterra. The journalist names the Hotel o Semáforo de Fisterra and takes the opportunity to talk about the great offer of lighthouses that Galicia is home to. “There are 19 in total, including the Tower of Hercules, protected by UNESCO and dating from the 1st century. It is believed to be the oldest surviving Roman lighthouse in the world,” the text states.

A ranking with hidden gems

The list created by CNN contains a large number of tourist destinations that are different from each other, but are “places that are still undiscovered, attractive out of season or often overlooked”.

Thus, Galicia completes the ranking along with 23 other landscapes such as the Turkish Black Sea coast, Albania, the island of Macedonia in Greece, the islands of Singapore or Greenland, consolidating itself as a point to consider for future travel.
