Places in Galicia where you can watch breathtaking sunsets

Atardecer en Galicia.

The long days invite you to discover hidden corners of Galicia where you can admire dreamy sunsets. It’s an experience that lets you enjoy sunsets tinged with orange and lilac hues, unique to the Iberian Peninsula. And it never disappoints, whether you’re on your own or with others, as it offers a moment to pause, unwind, connect with nature, and escape the noise.

In this brief list, we suggest three must-see spots to admire the sunset if you’re staying at one of our Carrís de Galicia hotels:

Ventana al Atlántico – A Coruña

This 4.5-meter-high structure, built on twelve granite blocks, stands on the coast of the city of A Coruña. Its prime location, facing the Atlantic Ocean, makes it an ideal spot to enjoy the sunset.

Situated between Mount San Pedro and O Portiño, it not only offers the chance to witness one of the last places in the country where the sun disappears beyond the horizon, but also boasts views of the islands of San Pedro and Punta Langosteira.

From there, the views of the coast will leave you speechless, but the experience wouldn’t be the same without the iconic Ventana al Atlántico. A work by Francisco Pazos Martínez, it invites visitors to capture a postcard-worthy photograph.

Parque de San Domingos de Bonaval – Santiago

Parque da Alameda may be the best-known park in the Galician capital, but San Domingos de Bonaval offers even greater potential when it comes to sitting down and taking in the sunset.

Just a few streets from the city centre, its unique hillside layout allows visitors to glimpse the horizon from different west-facing levels. Santiago Cathedral and the city’s monumental skyline are among the landmarks visible from this spot. In addition, Compostela’s characteristic rooftops add a special charm to the scenery.

This green space is popular with both locals and students, who come here with the same purpose or even enhance the experience with an improvised picnic. The park also features winding paths, fountains, and remarkable botanical interest.

O Cabo do Mundo Viewpoint – Ourense

This viewpoint is one of those essential stops for anyone wishing to immerse themselves in the Ribeira Sacra in all its splendour. It faces the meander carved by the River Miño along its course, offering a 360º panoramic view over the landscape.

Thanks to its altitude, visitors can observe from above the characteristic terraced vineyards that define this region. The site is easily accessible by car and offers free parking, as well as accessibility for people with reduced mobility.

If you’re up for venturing a bit further afield for the day, Illa Pancha, off the coast of Ribadeo (Lugo), and the A Siradella Viewpoint, at the highest point of O Grove (Pontevedra), are other must-see spots.
